About this image

This nova just east of the core of M31 was discovered by the XOSS team on November 27.8 and designated AT 2023yoa. It was subsequently identified as being in the same position as a nova detected in 2013 (2013-10c) and that, therefore, this is probably a recurrent nova. These images show it absent on November 15, bright on November 28 and fading on December 1. In these negative images the background light of M31 has been removed using a median estimator of radius 20 pixels. The dark blob on the right hand edge is the core of M31.
