NGC 4111 Lenticular Galaxy in Canes Venatici

About this image

This lenticular galaxy (NGC4111) was discovered by William Herschel in January 1788.

Apparent mag. 10.7. Distance c.50million ly. Size c.55,000ly.

Also seen are:

NGC4117 (to the right), also a lenticular galaxy. It was discovered by William Herschel in February 1788. Apparent mag. 13.0.

NGC4118 (a little above and to the right of 4117), also a lenticular galaxy, discovered by R J Mitchell in April 1857. Apparent mag. 14.6.

NGC4109 (above and to the left of 4111), a spiral galaxy discovered by Bindon Stoney in April 1851. Apparent mag. 14.1.

I have not been able to identify what looks like an edge on galaxy to the lower left of 4111, and a number of other unidentified galaxies can also be seen.
