About this image

I last observed this periodic comet back in September as it went through perihelion. It was 3rd magnitude then but very close to the Sun in the sky. It is now deep in the Milky way in Centaurus at almost 50 degrees south declination. We have just passed through the comet's orbital plane and there is some evidence that this comet is the progenitor of the Sigma Hydrid meteor shower which peaks in early December. This image shows dust spread along a line from PA 80 - 260.
