About this image

M71 is a small, loosely concentrated and relatively young globular cluster. It was discovered by Jean-Philippe Loys de Chéseaux in 1745 or 1746.

Distance c.13,000ly. Apparent mag. 6.1. Age c.9-10billion yr.

Bortle 7/8. Moon waxing gibbous, 93%, 12 days. Murky sky!
