About this image

This comet had an outburst around Jan 18.4. This image was taken around 30 hours later. It shows a bright, circular dust coma with a dark region in PA 70 and a bright, curved, radial feature in PA 20. At this point the dust coma is around 40 arcsec in diameter. Surrounding the bright dust coma is a fainter gas coma about twice the diameter and then a much fainter coma form previous outbursts. A faint gas tail extends upwards in PA 15 out of the frame with a prominent dark boundary on the eastern edge.

The latest lightcurve showing the magnitude in a 9 arcsec radius is here. If you would like to contribute to this lightcurve please contact me for details of the observing methodology.
