On this night 240 years ago William Herchel discovered this nebula describing it as a pretty bright milky nebula with an electric brush. This was 50 years before the invention of the electric motor. It is a large molecular cloud in Monoceros, later catalogued as Dreyer's nebula NGC2245 in his New General Catalogue
