About this image

The weather in the southeast of England has been pretty awful for this comet however last Friday evening there was a gap in the permanent overcast which lasted just long enough to get some images. There was still some cirrus around to the northwest and, by the time it was reasonably dark, the comet was low and it was moving into the branches of next door's tree. This is a widefield colour image taken with a 72mm refractor which shows the ion tail. The blotchy background is a combination of cirrus cloud and tree branches.  A close-up image taken at the same time is here. The larger telescope was less affected by the tree branches due to its greater aperture.
