About this image

This is the region of the crater Piccolomini, to the south of which is the crater Stiborius. In the left frame, taken at 1956 on the 13th April, a few segments of the rim of Stiborius are just catching the sunlight, producing a rather curious appearance. The old degraded unnamed crater around Stiborius is quite obvious with this illumination. The right frame was taken 24 hours later and now Stoborius is clearly seen, and the surrounding old one is much less noticeable.
