M109 - another barred spiral

About this image

M109 is a lovely sight. This image suffered from the nearby very bright Gamma Ursa Major (Phecda) getting the better of my humble optics as well as poor seeing with high haze ! I like the pretty diffraction patterns!

With higher power in the 8" RC the strucutre was great visually without the star in the field.

So M109 is great example of a barred spiral, and seen here is the extent by which the central region of the galaxy has been hoovered up by the bar. Lots happening here with gas being concentrated into the central core.

Lots of other small fuzzies in the image too
