About this image
Prompted by the fine show from the Aurora over the night 10/11th i took a bit of time to use my Lunt for some imaging. I normally visually observe the sun, but this IMX178 based camera has amazing dynamic range.
So seen here are a whole host of features, spots, active regions, rilles, phages and of course the prominances and loops at the limb.
Of course also seen here to the bottom right is Active Region AR 3664. Reportedly the most energetic region seen in recent years, this area is responsible for ongoing solar burps, CME events and the geomagnetic storm we have just witnessed. Comprising up to 58 individual sunspots, AR 3664 will now rotating out of sight so the immediate chance of further effects on the Earth will reduce.
No significant processing. Very light touch high level filter and a histogramme / visualisation tweak using the always excellent Astroart. This dealt with limb darkening quite nicely and enabled the prominences to be teased out without masking or actually altering data.
