About this image

This Class X (loose) globular cluster in Hydra was discovered by Charles Messier in 1780. It is usually a difficult object to observe from the UK because of its declination (–26° 44′ 38.6″), but more accessible from Tenerife using the COAST.

Apparent mag. 7.8. Distance c.33,600ly. Diameter c.100ly. Age c.11.2billion yr.
