Leo Triplet for a birthday

About this image

My last image of the Leo Triplet was prepared to celebrate the birth of the son of a friend of ours, who wanted to name his son after what was in the sky at the time. I suggested Leo as a name and made the image as a present. Three years later they had a second child, a girl, born on the same day of the year ! They couldn't both be called Leo, but I've made a second image anyway. I think it's better than the last one.

I used a different camera, which I'm still getting used to. What I have discovered is that the background signal level is very uniform and a bit high, and it varies by 1 or 2 ADU. But if the signal level is close to this it's hard to avoid a noise effect in the calibrated images.

Lesson: increase exposure times beyond my usual 300s to increase the signal level.

Excellent suggestion, but they didn't ask me this time ! They chose Charley. I like your idea better ;-)
