About this image

Inspite of the bad weather this spring, I have been trying to take

advantage of the 'galaxy season'. Arp 120 in Virgo is a very

interesting pair of galaxies in the larger grouping of Markarian's

chain. According to Cortese et al (2018, Mon. Not. R. Astr. Soc.) The

larger component - NGC4438 - is "the most dramatic example of a tidally

disturbed galaxy in the Virgo cluster". From an imaging persepective,

it presents the challenge of drawing out the intricate detail in the

its dust-lanes. The final image is 3hrs and 45mins of data in LRGB,

over 5 nights between May 27th and June 5th.
