Comet 12P post-perihelion outburst

About this image

Comet 12P had plenty of outbursts visible from the northern hemisphere before perihelion but outbursts after perihelion are rare. This may be an observational effect since the comet is always in the southern hemisphere after perihelion but it may be real. These images, taken on June 10 and June 16 show the coma expanding after the first major post-perihelion outburst which occurred sometime around June 9/10.
