Title

New 'body-builder' asterism?

About this image

Being somewhat obsessive about issues like focus and collimation -

especially on a new rig - I spent sometime examining the corners of my

recent shot of the squid nebula. I was pleasantly surprised to see a

small asterism that comprised a set of faint stars arranged in a

circular pattern. I was reminded of the so-called 'Engagement Ring'

asterism around Polaris, albeit without any outstanding, bright star

'gemstone'. When I came back to look again, I was intrigued to see an

extension of the pattern to make the circle look like the head on a

powerfully set pair of shoulders and arms. There might even be a

dumbbell weight in one hand! I tried this on a couple of 'naive

subjects' who both managed to see it spontaneously - can you?

The head is located at RA 21:02:41 DEC 60:32:25, and is comprised of

stars around mag 15.5.  The whole thing is quite small - extending only

over around 13 arc mins. The cropped image is taken from the 'synthetic

luminance' (combo of Ha and OIII) I used for the 'Squid' nebula. While

this used nearly over 5hrs of exposure, a short exposure with a luminance

(or no) filter should  suffice  to see the stars.
