About this image

A low resolution, objective prism spectrum of the nova. It shows a strong H alpha emission line and, as pointed out by Robin Leadbeater, the blue end of the spectrum is dimmed by interstellar absorption. Several A- and F-type stars in the field show the characteristic Balmer series absorption lines and atmospheric absorption bands in the IR.  And there is one M-type star showing metal oxide bands.

Field of view ~45 x 45 arc minutes with north, and red, to the right. Spectral range is ~380-800nm
