Title

Saturn with Titan & Dione in Transit

About this image

Set the alarm for 2 a.m. to see if I could catch the final Titan transit for the current apparition from my location in the US. Was blessed with one of those rare seeing opportunities, likely 9/10 for several captures. The color image here shows the dusky silhouette of Titan just skimming across the SPR of the planet as well as multiple bands in the N. hemisphere while the S. hemisphere is a bit more homogeneous and bluer in appearance. If you look closely you can also discern the tiny shadow of Dione which was in transit at the same time, lying just preceding the CM and at the latitude of the southern edge of the SEB. I also have an IR shot that I'll post in a bit.
