20240811_234530 - a bright Perseid and auroral rays

About this image

The Perseid meteors are approaching their maximum and NOAA showed an auroral oval moving down towards the UK with increasing chances of a good display. My skies were clear until 00:40, each of my video meteor cameras had recorded tens of meteors, then a thick bank of cloud rolled in from the west.

Before then, my north-facing cameras captured several PERs zipping through the Plough and at around 23:45 there was the added bonus of faint vertical auroral rays  This image is of a mag -1 Perseid. In this case, the 4:3 aspect ratio of my Leeds_N (UFO) camera is better suited than the 16:9 format of my RMS cameras, where the rays were mostly below their field of view.
