Circumpolar Southern Cross from South of New Zealand

About this image

Time Quoted above is UT and not PM. (There is no provision to show UT).

From the latitude of south-east Queensland, Australia, at 27.5 degrees South, where I live, the pointers and Southern Cross are not circumpolar and intersect the horizon. Further south, for example at Melbourne 38 degrees south, they traverse just above the southern horizon. This image was taken from over 46 degrees south latitude, from a cruise ship rounding the South Island of New Zealand and the pointers and Cross are presented here in an inverted orientation well clear of the horizon. The exposure was at dusk.
