Title

Alpha Capricornid meteor in Capricornus

About this image

I caught this nice Alpha Capricornid meteor while I was doing astrophotography on the North York Moors. I'd set up a camera to record a timelapse sequence of my 72ED telescope tracking various deep sky targets and it caught this meteor too. Although the Perseids meteor shower was active at the time, this meteor does not line up with the Perseids radiant. After checking the various minor showers with radiants in the area, I concluded that it must be an Alpha Capricornid. It lines up perfectly with the radiant of that shower and the Alpha Capricornids are known for occasional bright meteors, which are easier to catch on camera.
