About this image

A COAST image of another of the Palomar globular clusters. It was discovered by A.G. Wilson in 1955 by scrutinising the photographic plates of the first Palomar Observatory Sky Survey. (Palomar 9, however, was discovered by our old friend, William Herschel, in August 1784, without a photographic plate in sight!).

Apparent mag. 9.8. Distance (from the Sun) c.42,400ly. Age c.10.5billion yrs.
