Title

Searching for C/2023 A3 with the Alcock Binoculars

About this image

Unfortunately clouds hampered our view of C/2023 A3 tonight even though we had the most successful binoculars in the history of comet searching to help find it! These are George Alcock's legendary pair of 25 x105 observation binoculars that he used to discover five comets. These were very kindly donated recently to NLO by Christine Marsh and family having been bequeathed by the late Dr. Glyn Marsh.

I last saw those famous binoculars on the Isle of Man when they were being looked after by IoMAS members. Great to see they now have a forever home in the care of NLO - and they will soon observe comet C/2023 A3  :-)
