About this image

C/2023 A3 is a very dusty comet and most of what we are seeing is solar reflection from the dust in the tail, coma and anti-tail. This colour image shows some evidence for green gas emission at the front of the coma but this is weak and overwhelmed by the dust reflection. There is no sign yet of the blue ion tail since this is superimposed on the dust. We should start to see that as our viewing orientation changes.

This image has been generated using an iterative stacking approach which separates the comet and starfield so that each can be stacked separately. This avoids the star trails that would result otherwise and results in a more photogenic image.
