About this image

Colour image - from OSC

At a distance of nearly 1000kpc this huge galaxy is part of our local group

The galaxy is inclined by some 54° away from us (based on Inclinet simulation https://edd.ifa.hawaii.edu/inclinet/) , giving a smashing perspective view.

Stellar nurseries can be seen in the spiral arms, the arms are density waves and in this regions have increased local gas and ISM temperatures, preciptating collapse and eventually star formation.
