Waiting for an outburst of M31N 2008-12a

About this image

This recurrent nova in M31 goes off every year or so. The last eruption was on 2023 Dec 5 and the mean period between eruptions is around 351 days so this year's outburst is expected sometime between now and early January.  Details and a finder chart are in this paper and I am taking patrol images at every opportunity. In this image the position of the nova is marked by the blue circle. There is nothing visible there at the moment but I did pick up the outburst last year just shortly after it was announced.

There is a Google Groups mailing list for this programme if you would like to take part.
