About this image

An image of another of the elusive Palomar globular clusters, obtained using the COAST in Tenerife. The cluster was discovered by Harrington and Zwicky.

The cluster appears to have been captured from the Sagittarius Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy about 1.7 billion years ago during the latter's encounters with the Milky Way. It is now a part of the Milky Way's galactic halo.

Apparent magnitude 11.99. Distance from the Galactic Centre c.52,000ly. Size c.60ly. Age c.6.5billion yr.
