The Fighting Dragons of Ara

About this image

The Rim Nebula (NGC 6188), popularly referred to as the Fighting Dragons of Ara, is a stunning emission nebula located in the southern constellation Ara. An amazing region of ionized hydrogen gas and dust, often characterized by its vivid colours and intricate structures. It cannot be observed from the UK or Europe.

Where my telescope is at Lat 30°, the nebula reaches max alt of 11° above southern horizon. Hi-Res version HERE.
