About this image
M37 is a star cluster in the constellation Auriga the Charioteer.
This is a collection of stars which were born at the same time and are still gravitationally bound to each other. The cluster is thought to be 650M years old, Very massive stars use their Hydrogen fuel much faster then less massive stars. 650M years is old enough for these massive stars to have used up the Hydrogen in their core and are starting to fuse Hydrogen heavier elements in shells around the core. This causes the star to expand to enormous size and their surface cools. We can see these Red Giant stars scattered across the cluster.
