C/2024 G3 brightening rapidly

About this image

This southern, sungrazing comet is brightening rapidly and was mag 7.2 when I imaged it yesterday morning. It is on target to briefly reach around mag -5 at perihelion although the elongation then will be very small. My recent astrometry shows no sign of any significant non-gravitational forces so it is currently looking very healthy.
