Christmas Observer's Challenge

About this image

As the forecast was for cloud on Christmas day I have got in a day early for the Observer's Christmas Challenge. The sky has been obscured for most of the day today too but this evening I could see Venus through thin cloud and this has given me the opportunity to make another phase observation. I have been looking very closely at the shape of the illuminated cloud surface and one thing I noticed was that there were definite indentations of darkness at the terminator's most north and south points. Not quite how you would expect the terminator look at this point in the phase of Venus. It looked more pronounced in the south.
