Title
Between the night of December 28 and 29, 2024, I also observed the new periodic comet P/2023 S1.The comet is very interesting. First of all, in 2021 it passed at only 0.01AU from Jupiter, drastically modifying the orbital elements and especially the q (before it was at almost 5 now at about 2.6) with a period of 7.5 years instead of almost 30.
Furthermore, its absolute magnitude seems to be that of a good short-period periodic comet and also quite active.
Photo data (with clear filter): December 29, 2024 00h38m UT and 40x90s. North at the top (slightly shifted to the left by about 4°) and east to the left. Image scale 1".24/pixel and field of 21'.6x32'.3. Coma mag. 15.7, diameter 34" and tail of 2'.9 in PA 298°.
