About this image

This globular cluster in Hercules was discovered by Sidney van den Berg and Halton Arp in 1958 using the Palomar Sky Survey plates. At magnitude 14.74, it is the faintest of the Palomar clusters and one of the remotest. It lies at a distance of c.225,000ly from the Galactic Centre.

As this COAST image shows, it is a far from distinct object which probably accounts for its being seldom observed by amateurs.
