Hind's Variable Nebula suspected change

About this image

After taking the main image above last night I noticed what I think is a new area of suspected change to the nebula, a change I've never noticed before. In the magnified view in inset A above I've circled a dark area of 'shadow' which is the suspected change. It crosses a previously bright part of the nebula shown in inset B taken from an image I took on 2024 March 5. Looking back through my images and images posted by others on the BAA Gallery this new area of 'shadow' has appeared sometime between 2024 March 30 and Grant Privett's image here of 2024 November 11. Looking through the image archive of the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) suggests that the new 'shadow' appeared in mid-September 2024. Note that there are other changes/differences between the images in A and B above (particularly to the east of the area circled) but they are changes we have seen before.

This new 'shadow' has not been seen before and it will be interesting to see how it proceeds.
