About this image

This attractive face-on spiral galaxy was discovered by William Herschel in March 1787. It is also known as the Little Pinwheel Galaxy.

This Coast image shows the structure of the galaxy quite well, with a small nucleus and two major arms but no bar. 

Apparent mag. 10.4. Diameter c.84,000ly. Distance c.39.8million ly.
