PuWe1 Faint Planetary in Lynx

About this image

This is by far the faintest target that I have attempted so far. It was discovered in 1980 by two Astronomers and designated after their surnames as Purgathofer-Weinberger 1 or PuWe1 for short. It is also known as PN G158.9+17.8.  It is one of the largest but faintest Planetary Nebulae in the skies with a diameter of 20 arc minutes.  The Ha signal is equivalent to a magnitude 8.6 star spread across a circle of 20 arc minute diameter. The Oiii is even weaker with the equivalent of a magnitude 11.6 star.

In order  to gain as much signal as possible I choose to use 10 minute exposures in both Ha and Oiii and pushed the gain of my ASI1600MM camera from unity gain of 139 to 300.  There is quite a bit of noise in the resultant image but for 4 hours of exposure it seems to have worked quite well.
