About this image

A mere shadow of its former self this comet is now a 15th mag object moving slowly through the Milky Way in Delphinus. It is nicely placed in the morning sky and I set my telescope to wake up at 4am to get an image between astro and nautical twilight. The sky was very bright since the nearly full Moon was setting in the west. The comet is now around 3.0 au from the Sun outbound and 3.5 au from the Earth. It was this distance from the Sun inbound in 2024 April but quite a bit closer to the Earth (2.1 au) and it looked very different then. It is nicely placed for us to follow for the rest of the year.
