About this image
We did a live stream of today's partial solar eclipse from the Nottingham Astronomical Society's Observatory. One telescope was set up with a white light filter, and I sat with the 50mm double stacked Lunt fitted with an ASIZWO174MM (with IR blocking glass); unfortuantely, this was on a poorly polar aligned mount, so lots of tracking adjustments needed to be made.
I hadn't intended to make a time-lapse but given I seem to have recorded much of the eclipse, it seemed worth a go. I took a screenshot every 60 seconds from the various videos I had, cropped these, aligned them manually, and then merged those pictures into an animated gif. There were 111 pictures in total; there are various gaps when I zoomed in on limb prominences or other things, but I'm very happy with the result. I think it shows the essence of the partial eclipse in hydrogen alpha quite well. The whole broadcast we did can be found on the Society's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/NottinghamAstronomicalSociety
