Sun in Ha from Winchester Weekend

About this image

A capture during some solar observing at the Winchester Weekend. 2x30 second captures with slightly different tuning on the second etalon, 103fps, full sensor, 56% gain, gamma 50%, 0.960ms. Best 50% of each stacked and sharpened in AS!4 and two images layered on top of one another and flattened in GIMP after some simple levels and curves and colouration.

Lots of prominence activity at the top right, with a very noticeable chimney / jet projecting a good distance away from the limb at about the 2 o'clock position. Also very long filaments on the face of the Sun and one extending to the lower limb and wrapping around the back of the Sun and its structure seen distinct from the limb at about the 7 o'clock position. Very stable seeing here in Winchester at the time, and a very transparent sky; unsure if this was just a transient spell of good seeing, or if the seeing on the south coast is significantly better than in the centre of the country in Nottingham. A really lovely show put on by the Sun for all the solar observers at Winchester. Hopefully we'll have more of that today.
