About this image

M109 is thought to be one of the furthest objects in the Messier catalog with distances in the range of 50 - 80 MLy, in Ronald Stoyan's "Atlas of the Messier objects" it is given as 67.5MLy.

M109 is a barred spiral of the Ursa Major Galaxy Group.

This image, captured over 7 nights and 3 months in 2025 also captures the Magellanic type satellite galaxies of M109, namely UGC 6923, UGC 6940 and UGC 6969.

Comparing the image to Aladin DSS2, I can see that it has also captured WISEA J115834.38+532043.3
