        About this image
A galaxy quintet in Pisces:
NGC410 was discovered by William Herschel in September 1784. It is an elliptical galaxy, the brightest of the quintet at apparent mag. 11.5.
NGC407 was discovered by William Herschel in September 1784 on the same night as NGC410. It is a lenticular galaxy, apparent mag 13.4. In this image it appears edge-on.
NGC414 is a pair of lenticular galaxies (PGC4254, PGC93079) of apparent magnitudes 13.8 and c.14.5. They were discovered by the Swedish astronomer Herman Schultz in October 1867 at Uppsala Observatory. It is unclear whether these are in close proximity to each other.
IC1636 is a lenticular galaxy discovered by Stephane Javelle in October 1903. Apparent mag.14.4. This is the faintest of the four distinct objects and appears as a small faint blur.
A number of other tiny faint galaxies are also visible in this COAST image.
