Title

Spectroheliograph of Sun in Hydrogen Alpha

About this image

My school (Newquay Tretherras School, Cornwall) has a project with the Royal Society (#RoyalSociety Partnership Grants) and Exeter University to image the Sun using a spectroheliograph in order to measure its rotation rate. This image has been taken with the kit acquired for that purpose and is being used with the school's astronomy clubs and students for that purpose and also for outreach - local primary schools.

Anyway - todays improvement in the image was swapping the carbon fibre tripod that comes from ZWO with an HEQ5 Pro tripod. This significantly reduced the resonance that was producing "wobbles" (technical term?) in the resulting image. The quality of the image is significantly improved so that we can see lots of filaments, sunspots and active regions - the sun looks glorious at the moment.

There's an article on Doppler solar rotation measurement using my LHIRES III spectrograph in this months journal which might be of use

Cheers

Thanks, I'll take a look. Nigel
