About this image

This seldom observed barred spiral galaxy, located within the Pegasus Square, was discovered by William Herschel in September 1784. It has a prominent bar with diffuse arms giving the impression, seen faintly here in this PIRATE image, of a ring. The bright star below is mag.10.0.

Apparent mag 11.4. Distance c.40million ly. Diameter c.50,000ly.
