This shot shows the smoke trail left by the bright meteor seen over much of the UK on the night of 2-3 July 2025. The meteor was seen at 23:50 UT on 2 July (00:50 BST on 3 July). I was out observing a bright display of noctilucent clouds at the time I saw the meteor. It was bright and a deep orange colour. As it neared the horizon it burst with a very bright and intense orange colour and it appeared frilled around the edges as if flames were coming off it. The flash lasted about half a second. After the meteor burst it broke up into at least five different fragments and maybe as many as ten that I could see. These continued along the meteor's path for a second or two before they all faded. All the fragments were distinctive in that they were all a bright green colour. Unfortunately I didn't catch the fireball itself on camera.
Just after the meteor passed there was a thin white smoke trail along its path that was visible to the naked eye. This slowly drifted to the west and faded. It was visible using binoculars for about 25 minutes and for longer on camera. During that time it became wider, twisted and more diffuse.

It seems incredible that the smoke trail lasted for over 20 minutes!
