About this image

NGC 6339 (looking very similar to my previous post, NGC 7741) is a mag. 13 spiral galaxy in Hercules. It was discovered by Lewis Swift in April 1887. In this PIRATE image, the galaxy is seen to have an irregular bar and two lengthy arms that seem to meet, giving an overall oval appearance.

Distance c. 95million ly.

Nearby is edge-on galaxy PGC 60007.
