About this image
This is an animation of a part of images taken of the nebula on 15th May, 21st May, 18th June and 12th July this year. The nebula has been fairly large and bright since about March this year, and remained relatively stable. However this animation suggests it might now be about to fade. There is a small increase in size and brightness between the frames for 15th May and 21st May but then the last two frames show a reduction in size and brightness. So the change looks to have started sometime between the 21st May and 18th June.
If you took any images of this nebula between these two dates could you please send me copies at vne@britastro.org as it might better pinpoint when the reversal started. Indeed may I remind folk to copy me any images you take of variable nebulae on the Deep Sky Section's observing programme as I maintain the archive for them.
Now is a good time to keep tabs on this nebula to see if it continues to fade and in what ways. There isn't much photometry data for PV Cep in the database for the period since March 2025 so I may have to do some magnitude measurements of this star on my previous images to see how these correlate (or not) with changes to the nebula's appearance.
