About this image

Here is an image of the globular cluster M 53 captured at the end of April this year. I've only recently processed the data and have been enjoying exploring the image. The mag nine stars at the bottom of the image provide a beautiful contrast of blue-white and yellow-red, and behind the cluster of stars, there are many faint galaxies to explore. I've spotted some down to mag 19.

I've used a Massimo Riccardi reducer, which usually lives on my APM 107 refractor. Teleskop Express have produced a special adapter - also available from First Light Optics - to enable this large optic to be mounted inside the focuser of the telescope.
