About this image
What goes on tour stays on tour (until it appears in the BAA Journal :-)
Our Orkney tour party group at The Comet Stone, at the Ring of Brodgar.
There's no good reason why it is called The Comet Stone, but Victorians likened the shape of the Stones of Stenness to be an arc, like the crescent Moon, the Ring of Brodgar, a circle, to be the Sun, and so this outlying stone became the Comet Stone.

Callum - Thanks for organising such a wonderful meeting. The weather on the Friday and Monday was spectacularly sunny and Orkney looked absolutely beautiful. The wind on the Sunday just added to the wild feel of the neolithic sites. The highlight of the weekend was holding actual neolithic artefacts in my hand.
Definitely worth the 1450 miles return drive from Chelmsford although the Pentland Firth crossing on the ferry was disappointingly calm!
