About this image

The rain had only just stopped when I went to take the pictures. Apparently, I missed the local hail storm on the backedge of Storm Benjamin. The wind was still howling nicely though (shaking the camera and tripod) and the wind chill took things down to "feels like " 2C. And it did.

I regretted my choice of lens immediately but after standing waiting for 45 minutes before a clear patched arrived - and the future uncertain - I just kept taking pics. Should really have used a faster lens, but hey!

ps has anyone any thoughts on why the satellites bottom left are so red coloured?

The image shows 50 frames aligned and combined showing the maximum value seen in each pixel.

Quickly spotted that most frames were photobombed...

The concentration of streaks low down in the direction of the Sun is covered here and in the previous post here. Basically the satellites are nadir facing mirrors and we are seeing a specular reflection of the Sun with the satellite in the middle and the Sun and observer on opposite horizons. I think that is why the very low ones are reddish.
