About this image

Number 5 from Patrick Moore's Caldwell catalogue, this galaxy lies close to the Milky Way at about 10 MLY. However, because it lurks behind the dusty areas of our galactic equator it is not as bright as it should be, and is thus nicknamed "The Hidden Galaxy". I'm pleased to have captured some nebulosity and dust lanes in its spiral arms, and its core has a very subtle blue hue. Dust much closer to home has left a dust mote top left, so at some point I will need to strip down the imaging train to remove it.
