About this image

Comet observers have had an amazing run of impressive or fascinating comets over the last 18 months. C/2023 A3, C/2024 G3, C/2025 A6, interstellar comet 3I and now the fragmentation of C/2025 K1. We are also incredibly lucky that we have access to large telescopes in addition to the equipment we have at home. This is a set of 15s exposures of C/2025 K1 made using one of LCOGT 1m, f/8 telescopes on Mt. Teide, Tenerife. The images were obtained as part of the Comet Chasers programme and it shows the three main fragments of C/2025 K1. We will use this data to get precise astrometry on the fragments to help determine their relative velocities.
